This week was an exciting one at MRA, as we finally got to meet our buddies and have our first buddy time. The Trillium students are matched with our eighth grade Cedar students. We’ve been talking about buddies since the beginning of the year and the children were excited to finally meet them. Buddy time is every Wednesday from 12:15 to 12:45. Buddy pairs are grouped into buddy families, and the buddy families rotate amongst the teachers each week. It is a great way for every student to get to know every teacher at MRA. The students returned with big smiles and stories about what they’ve learned about their new friends.
We had Tawyna Langendorfer subbing for us on Monday and Tuesday before our long term sub, Lori Martin, started on Wednesday. Lori is both a talented educator as well as one of the founders of MRA. She also happens to be a great friend of mine! As you heard from Shelley this week, Lori will be with us for the next couple of months as our lead teacher. She is excited to be with Trillium and has brought such a wonderful energy to our room. Lori and I have been busy planning and preparing for conferences. We will both be at conferences and are looking forward to meeting with you all. Please make sure to sign up for a conference time on the signup sheet outside the front office. Also make sure to complete the parent conference survey and return it to us as soon as you can. The surveys are a great tool to help us plan a conference that is informative and helpful for each family.
In continuing with our family unit, we will be discussing our names. How did we get our names? What do our names mean to us? How do they make us feel? We would like parents to send a quick email or send in a note telling us how you chose your child’s name. Not only is it fascinating to hear how we got our names, it is also exciting to hear how our friends got their names. It would be great to have these by the end of the week.
Many of you have asked about helping in class and we would love to have you! We currently could use help in the mornings during our literacy time. From 8:00-8:25 volunteers can read with students. Drop in help is wonderful so please stay whatever mornings fits your schedule. We could also use help in the afternoons, specifically during the last hour of our day. If you are interested in helping during any other time, we have several projects in class we could use help with. Things like taking work down, mounting the family photos on paper, filing, etc. These can be done whenever is convenient for you.
With this being a short week and with so many fun things going on already, we will not be having a Halloween party. We will be having a holiday party in December as well as a Valentine’s Day party in February, so we’ll make sure we have fun class celebrations this year. Speaking of fun celebrations, Trillium is in charge of hosting Grandparents Day at MRA on November 20th. Stay tuned for more info!
See you all Tuesday!
Best,
Shannon
