The Trillium play is just about ready! We had a great week of rehearsal and the students are getting very excited to share it with their friends and family. We spent much of the week working on our lines and using our stage voices. Ms. Blythe helped us add instruments and musical cues, which gives the play a great flow. It is wonderful watching how proud Trillium is to get to perform a play that they wrote, and to see the story they created come to life.
In math, we’ve been graphing our weather. We learned about the saying “March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”. We created a list of what Lion weather looks like and what Lamb weather looks like. Each day we vote on what kind of day we are having. We’ve found that some days can be Lamb one minute and Lion the next! We are also working on counting the number line by ones, fives and tens. The students enjoyed finding a scrambled number line on our math wall and having to fix it.
On Wednesday we were able to do some planting for our playspace project. The Trillium, along with 7th grade Halle McLoud, are working on creating a butterfly garden behind the Trillium classroom. We’ve been working with Halle to decide where are garden will go, how big it will be, what we will plant and how we will plant it. We planted our first batch of seeds, which are now lining our sunny window ledges. We are anxiously waiting for our first sprouts!
On Friday we watched a play put on by some of the Huckleberry students. They had written their play as well. After, we were able to talk about what they did well and what they could have done differently. It was great opportunity for us to be able to use our observations to improve our play. Later in the afternoon we visited the Cedar classroom to see their inventions created with electrical circuits. We were able hear about how they came up with their inventions and learn about what was making them light up and move. The Trillium students loved the experience and are now looking forward to being Cedars so they can make their own inventions!
The auction is quickly approaching, and our basket is looking great! We’ll be inventorying what we have so far and send out a list of what we still need. We will also be starting on our auction are project soon. Stay tuned for updates.
Please note that this Thursday, students are allowed to wear green for St. Patrick’s Day. We are suggesting that students not wear their play costumes to school. We'll have plenty of time for costumes and makeup before the play. Not only is our play that day, but the Lucky Lope 5K is taking place after school. We would love to see some Trillium students and families out running or walking! All proceeds from this event will go to the Thirst project, a non-profit organization that Gracie Wandershied is supporting through her 8th grade independent project.
Have a wonderful week!
