This was a week of celebrations in Trillium! On Tuesday we celebrated our 100th day of school. Can it be we’ve already been in school over 100 days? It was great to look back on how far we have come since September. We also learned that the last day of school was not Tuesday, and that we did not become Huckleberries on Wednesday. These milestones can be confusing when you are only 5 and 6, but were all relieved to know that we still have a few months of learning together.
We spent our 100th day by making our 100th day eyeglasses and counting various objects to 100. We discovered that making 10 rows of 10 is a great way to count large quantities. Our room was surrounded with rows and rows of Legos, paperclips, unifix cubes, screws, you name it. Then we created our self-portraits for the month. This time we drew two portraits; one showing what we look like now and one showing what we will look like in 100 years. We had an excellent discussion about how our appearance changes as we age. During our math time we finished off our hundreds chart and played a dice game where we got to work with a partner to roll to 100. We ended our day with our weekly sign language lesson by Lauren Urton. Overall, it was a very fun day.
On Wednesday we celebrated Read Across America day with a day completely dedicated to reading and books. We had some great Dr. Seuss costumes that day and some furry visitors as well. My dog, Baby, spent the day in Trillium being read to. Mrs. Quinlan stopped by to read us What Pet Should I Get by Dr. Seuss and brought Archie with her. Archie is a sweet pug who belongs to a MRA family. The students loved having animals around for the day.
Your children may have mentioned the play we are working on in Trillium and we are finally ready to share the date of our production. Our play will be Thursday, March 17th at 2:00. Our play is loosely based on the book I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen. We’ve changed up the story a bit and added in our own fun characters and themes. Over the next two weeks we’ll be finalizing our play and could use help in class with props and costumes. I’ll send home an email with dates and times soon. I know that not everyone will be able to make it. It would be great if we could have a parent tape it so we can put a copy on YouTube. Let me know if you are interested in helping with this.
We are also getting ready to start up our chicken incubator! This is a very exciting event, not just for Trillium but for all of MRA. This will lead us into our animal families unit, as well as inspiration for our class auction project!
Speaking of the auction, don’t forget that it is coming up on April 16th! Make sure to buy your tickets and get your spot. Even if you don’t plan on buying much, just purchasing your auction ticket is helpful! Not only are there great auction items, but it is also a fun night for our MRA community. I often hear people say after their first auction at MRA that they didn’t expect it to be so fun. Let Lori or myself know if you have any questions about the auction. We hope to see you there!
Enjoy your weekend with your sweet children.
Best,
Shannon
