Dear families,
We hope that you all had a restful winter break with your families. Lori and I both did, and we started the week eager to get back. We spent the last couple of days before break finishing up the Trillium report cards, which was a wonderful time of reflection for us. We’ve been able to see so much growth in these last few months. We got to sit down and discuss what makes each individual Trillium student special. We truly feel a special bond with each student in our class, and getting to sit down and put it into words was a wonderful reflection.
Hopefully you’ve all been able to access your report cards. If you have any questions, please let Lori and I know and we’d be happy to clarify. We’ve had several parents ask if they should be working at home with their child on areas that they scored lower in. Please know that several of those areas are skills or concepts that we are just beginning to work on, and a 2 means the student is at the emerging level, grasping the concept and making appropriate progress. The best thing you can do to help your child’s learning progress is to read with them and have them read to you. Please do not feel pressure to do anything more than that. If we ever have a specific concern, or feel a child could benefit from additional help at home, we will let you know as soon as that concern arises. We’ll never wait until a report or conference to share that information with you. Again, if you have any questions, please let us know.
We had a great first week back to school. The students arrived on Tuesday excited to see their friends and teachers, and to share all about their holiday celebrations. It was a perfect tie in to our current theme, which is looking at holidays and celebrations. We discussed a how families celebrate different holidays, and each celebration is a bit different.
On Wednesday we started a new self-portrait, this time using large paper and tempera paints. It was a project that had several steps and took a few days, and the students have created beautiful work. We’ll be getting them up on our walls this week. Please stop in and see them if you get a chance.
We’ve also started preparing for the winter performance, which takes place on Thursday, January 28th. The students are working on several pieces, including a special performance with their 8th grade buddies. We are excited to share these with you!
A couple of reminders: Please make sure that your student has rain boots and an extra set of clothes that stay at school. If your child has used their extra set of clothes recently, please make sure to send them back so we have them when needed. Also, make sure your child as a heavy, weather appropriate coat. With the recent cold weather we’ve had, the rain jackets do not provide enough warmth for recess and outdoor activities. We go out every day, so having the appropriate gear is very important.
Auction packets went home last week, and we’ve already received several responses. Please stay tuned for more information. We’ll be sending home specific information about our auction basket soon.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Best,
Shannon
