It is hard to believe it is already February. The year continues to fly by and Trillium continues to learn and grow. We had an exciting week last week, starting with a kick off assembly for Molalla High School’s Share the Love. If you are not familiar with Share the Love, we’ll be posting links to the MRA Families page on Facebook with information and events. The students were very excited to hear about some of the fun things they could do to support this great cause.
Lori and I, along with Mrs. Quinlan, are wrapping up our mid-year assessments. Students are completing a math assessment, a DRA reading assessment, and a general kindergarten progress assessment. It has been exciting to see the growth since the beginning of the year. We’ll be using the data from these assessments to guide our teaching as well as to write our next report cards and preparing for conferences in April.
In continuing with our current theme, we’ve been looking at environments and cultures. With the Chinese New Year being tomorrow, we’ve been able to look at how a New Year’s celebration in China is different than the New Year’s celebrations we have here. We made Chinese lanterns, learned to paint the Chinese character for monkey, and started a collaborative art project making a large dragon. We are hoping to get the dragon finished tomorrow. Please stop in and see this all the great creations.
On Thursday I was able to attend the Oregon School Garden Conference with Iva Quinlan. It was very inspiring to meet so many people passionate about school gardening. Iva and I both came back with new ideas and excited to get the garden ready for spring. If you are interested in being involved with the school garden, please let me know. It’s a great way to get your volunteer hours in and its fun!
Fitting in nicely with our study of different cultures, the Cedars had their Renaissance Fair on Friday. Trillium was able to walk through the fair on Friday morning, and then we went back in the afternoon to watch the Cedars perform a play. It was clear that the Cedars put a lot of work into both the fair and the play, and Trillium loved watching their buddies teaching and performing. There were even some Trillium students knighting each other on the playground.
Thank you again for all of your help with the surprise Valentine’s Party. It looks like everything is covered at this point. If you would still like to bring something, we could always use more decorations items (balloons, fresh flowers, wall décor). I’ll send out an email later this week with a schedule of events for Thursday.
Don’t forget the auction tickets are now available for purchase on the MRA website! Not only is the auction an important fundraiser, but it is also just a fun night to spend out with other MRA friends and families. Hopefully we will see many you there! Stay tuned for more auction info. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Best,
Shannon
