It’s hard to believe that we are in our final weeks of school. This year feels like it has flown by! We had a substitute teacher visit our room who hadn’t been in Trillium since early September, and it was wonderful to hear her feedback. She said she couldn’t believe the growth she had seen. She noted the way the students interacted with each other, solved their own problems, worked as a team, and felt like a real community. These are things that Lori and I notice every day, but it was fantastic to hear it from someone who is not here regularly. These are not easy skills for adults, let alone when you are only 5 and 6! The Trillium class has taught all of us that the smallest and the youngest can be great leaders, and can make their community a better place.
Our chickens had an exciting move out to the garden on Monday! We moved the chicken tractor out to an area needing to be planted and let the chickens pick out bugs and weeds. Having the chickens in the garden attracted many visitors, and it was wonderful to see some many people out enjoying space.
Because we had such a successful hatch, we are finding that 10 chickens is a lot to manage! Especially now that they are getting bigger. We would like to place 5 chickens in the next week or so in the next week. If you are interested, please send me an email.
We’ve been working on our placespace every Tuesday with the Cedars, and we are making great progress. Our goal is to have the butterfly garden, digging mine and path in this school year. We are also working with the Cedar students to paint a mural on one of the walls, and add a space with tables that can be shared by future Trillium and Cedar students. The students have been working in small groups to create their plans and come up with supply lists. It is a joy to see our youngest and oldest students working together to create a space that everyone can enjoy.
We could use some parent help with parts of our placespace, including building the digging mine (which will basically be a large raised bed), repairing a section of chain-link fencing, gravel spreading, and general clean up. If you would like to work on any of these projects as part of your volunteer hours, please get in touch with Lori or myself. It doesn’t have to be worked on during school; all of these jobs can be done in the evenings or on weekend. We are also in need of wood to build the digging mine. If anyone has any they would be willing to donate, please let us know.
We hope that those of you who attended the Ladies Tea had a wonderful time. The weather was beautiful and the event was very well attended. It meant a lot for the students to be able to present their cards and gifts, and to get to spend time with their favorite ladies.
We are looking forward to our zoo trip this week! Continue to watch your email for updates and information. It looks like we will have beautiful weather to enjoy.
Have a great week,
Shannon
